Dear Adventure Seeker, Working Professional, Parent Low on Fuel, Athlete On The Off-Season, Black Girl,
It is time to take the trip you’ve been considering for some time now.
Easier said than done, right? Well, I am here to provide inspiration and first-hand experiences on my travels. My hope is that you will soon plan to embark on your next adventure after reading this! My name is Miah Moore, and this is my journey of going Moore Abroad.
So let me give you some background on how it all started for me. The innate desire to explore has been within me for as long as I can remember; however, trips were often local or within the state of California—yes, born and raised! During my senior year in college, my schedule began to open up, and my desire to see more of the world began to grow. Now, as a college student, traveling isn’t something that can be done on a whim; it would take time, planning, and most importantly, FUNDING! However, I didn’t allow any of those factors to hinder my ability to explore.
Throughout my time in school, I managed my funds by maintaining savings for food, housing, supplies, activities, etc., from my work checks. As my last semester approached, I began to consider traveling as part of my essential funds. Day trips to the beach, San Diego, home, or even dinner in a new area—this is how I became accustomed to “traveling solo.”
I began to find my momentum and was ready to expand my travels to at least a few new states, but then the infamous events of 2020 quickly diverted all plans. Believe it or not, though there were many trials and tribulations, that year was a blessing in disguise.
Being confined at home broadened my family’s desire to experience destinations on our lists, because let’s be honest, we never know when our time is up. This is when my journey of traveling began. As a family, we took our first major trip to Florida, sometime later, Hawaii, then Pennsylvania and New York. Each of these trips had a significant celebration or purpose, and that became the way we planned our travels.
It’s a matter of getting your feet wet and understanding the benefit of stepping outside of your familiar borders. In the spring of 2023, I stepped out on faith and planned a solo trip to Europe. This would be my first time out of the country, and I chose to do it alone? Yes. I told myself, if not now, when? Waiting for the right time or having someone to travel with would result in missing my opportunity to explore new cultures and different scenery! As you can imagine, my family had so many concerns, but I reassured them by stating, “It’s okay, I am not truly going alone.” While traveling to the destination, I was alone, I met so many travelers who were also solo along the way. Yes, I did meet up with a travel group—set my family at ease knowing that—however, on some of the journeys I’ll share in this blog, it was a matter of immersing myself in the culture.
The fact that no matter where travel may take you, you are never truly alone has been solidified to me time and time again. Italy, Greece, Costa Rica, Spain, Paris, and London, all of which are countries I have visited, display a unique sense of community. The joy of meeting someone from a place you could only dream of, breaking bread with a newfound friend, or exploring the city realizing you are walking in an answered prayer—this is the beauty & privilege of traveling. We can read or observe others’ experiences, but the ability to live it yourself provides indescribable joy. Let this be your sign, a reminder, the inspiration to finally embark on the journey that would last a lifetime.
I am so excited to share more with you, from the countries I stated above to local recommendations. Let me know what topics you’d like to see more of! Under the travel toolbox, downloadable brochures with personal & local recommendations are available for free; just provide your email for access. If you would like to discuss future travel plans, check out the book tab on the site as well.
I’ll see you in the next post, and always remember… It’s time for you to go
Moore Abroad ♡.
